THE ELECTORALS!

Over the past two weeks, I have had two wonderful and fun-filled assignments with the Welland Tribune. The editors wanted to meet with me to welcome me to their team as their newest freelance photographer.
The first shoot would be of my personal friend and local musician, Jesse Reid, as he played for a packed crowd in a small Port Colborne cafe one fine evening last week. This would be the CD release performance of his second CD "Gravelly Road". Cheers Jesse, you are wonderful.
And what a fun and wonderful shoot it was! (see next Blog entry)
The second shoot would be to follow the electoral results of Pelham-Wainfleet areas on Monday November 13th. Municipal election results would be pouring in, and my assignment started out being served to me in the boardroom at the Tribune, just after meeting the production staff of that evening's Electoral project. Such a fun time I had with meeting the Tribune Team, and enjoying pizza with them at the same time prior to the shoot! My first stop would be at the Pelham Municipal Offices/City Hall of Fonthill. After having fun getting some great shots of the new Pelham Mayor-Elect Dave Augustyn, as well as following the precedings of the meet. I arrived there at 8pm, and had to leave by 830pm, as my next scheduled shoot would be at Wainfleet Hall, to also capture the mayoral candidates from that area. Knowing I did not have much time, I travelled those back roads of Welland at top speeds. Only to find that results from the running were not yet in at Wainfleet either.
Mayor-Elect Barb Henderson posed well for some shots,

and I met briefly with the mayor candidates for their photos. Mostly mingling shots were definitely my focus-mingling with their guests, or with locals wanting to come out to see the results. My third and final stop was never completed that evening, which would entail me to drive from Wainfleet to Port Colborne City Hall. I didn't male it there in time, as I found myself giving my own personal tour of an empty City Hall. The final results were in, as I phoned the Port Colborne reporters to find out my direction from there. I would have to go back to Tribune Headquarters to end the evening. I did as such, and hung around for a while at the office, while they uploaded my photos real-time, to be used for publication the next morning.

Two photos were used for the next day's Welland Tribune, and on the front cover at that!

Two days later, on November 16, another photo of the new Pelham mayor was used in full colour, and again on the front cover.

I was and still am ecstatic! Such a fun feeling walking into the store two days out of the week and seeing your own photographic work on the front cover of the newspaper.

It was fun and exciting driving as fast as I could, not really knowing where I was going and what I was going into when doing these shoots. I knew I could handle it well and I did as such....Front Cover Material I handed in. :)

Such an amazing direction I am going..
