COLOUR IT IS!
To those of you who missed today's Niagara Falls Review...
I was asked by the Review to cover a potentially difficult shoot this past Saturday October 14th at the Chippawa-Willoughby Memorial Arena. I was to cover the grand opening of the "Penalty Free" game for Niagara Falls Minor League Hockey. Dan Dakin was to do the story on how violence should not be part of sports for younger players. I had to shoot the puck drop ceremony, that was carried out by Niagara Falls MPP Kim Craitor, President of Women's Place of South Niagara Tom Snodgrass, and President of Niagara Falls Minor Hockey League Butch Sacco. My shoot detail would also include having to shoot the minor league hockey game between Queenston Place and Little Caesars, as well as capturing a "Feature Shot"..something that included the involvement of the players and the coach, or of the players and the ref...something creative..different than what I have been shooting for the paper..I was excited..and nervous..
Being on location gave me a sense of relief. I was there to get "the shot" for the paper, and I was determined to give my best shot yet. All feelings of nervousness left, when I got into the action behind the players benches. There I was emmersed into the game play. The shouts and directions from the coaches, the young players reactions to the different stages of the game.
Now mind you, this was "little league"...but it was Sports..the beginnings of possible future famous hockey players.
Here was my shot, chosen to be printed in colour, and on the front page to the Sports Section to today's newspaper. I feel quite accomplished this evening. Front page stuff! :)
Enjoy!
