SUMMER '06: Day 2-Part 1: All Aboard!
We decided to get warm by walking over the the nearby Ferry Terminal,
in order to freshen up a bit before our crossing on the Chi-Cheemaun to Manitoulin Island.
After warming up in the terminal for a short while, we headed back to our car. By 630am, the annoucement went out for all vehicles to be prepared to enter onto the ferry. Within a few minutes, and after waiting for a few vans, trucks, and motorbikes, we were being signalled by the traffic control that it was our turn to go. We were off!
boarding from our car
The Chi-Cheemaun is a transportation ferry that crosses Lake Huron from Tobermory to Manitoulin Island. Chi-Cheemaun is the Ojibway Indian word for "Big Canoe". I would explain more about the ferry, however I have found a really great online explanation of it, that would most certainly explain the mechanics of this neat ship in a far more effective way..click here to go to this site
The following photos for this blog entry will show photos from our crossing on Aug 12. The small collection in which we show you here, detail some of the sights along the way including Cove Island Lighthouse, Islands of Lake Huron, as well as photos from the life on board our two hour cruise to Manitoulin....there is nothing like a 7am rise and a beautiful majestic sunrise over the waters of Lake Huron...
